BSRIA has launched a new guide (A Practical Guide to Building Thermal Modelling) in both eBook and pdf format that aims to provide practical guidance on the delivery of thermal models.

The development and preparation of thermal models for projects is now an integral part of the design process, in particular to demonstrate compliance with the Building Regulations. Project teams are increasingly being asked to commit to future energy use and thermal modelling is used in order to accurately predict future energy consumption. It is therefore important that the thermal models are subject to part of the quality review process in order that future disputes or claims do not arise as a result of any inaccuracies.

The guide focuses on dynamic and compliance thermal modelling (rather than CFD simulation) and provides an overview of the thermal modelling process with a high level strategic approach to quality requirements. Primarily aimed at thermal modellers, this publication also provides guidance for organisations undertaking thermal modelling so as to improve working practices and help mitigate risks. It has no alignment to any particular software.

The guide recommends that the thermal model be developed in close liaison with the client and project design team and a document defining the agreed basis, scope and objectives of the modelling should be prepared at the start of the process.

This guide is available in both pdf and eBook format (suitable for most mobile devices). Non-members can purchase the eBook at a 25% discount until September 13th. Normal price for both pdf and eBook is £40 + VAT. BSRIA members can download either format from the website free of charge.
