With the Green Deal officially launched on 28 January 2013, CIBSE Certification is pleased to announce that it has certified its first organisation to become a Non-Domestic Green Deal Advice Organisation.
The Company, Digital Energy, was also one of the first companies to employ CIBSE-certified Energy Assessors when the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations were first introduced.
Dr Andrew Geens, Head of CIBSE Certification at the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) said: “This is an important move and we are delighted to have Digital Energy listed right at the start of this initiative.”
On both a domestic and global level, CIBSE members are working to meet the challenge of encouraging better building performance. Buildings use almost 50% of the UK’s energy and it is recognised that 20% of the energy used in buildings is needlessly wasted.
The Green Deal is a UK Government initiative to enable building owners and operators to install energy efficiency improvements to buildings at no upfront cost to the owner or operator. Green Deal Advisors who will be employed and supervised by Certified Green Deal Advice Organisations such as Digital Energy, will identify areas within buildings where improvements can be made, and these will then be installed by certified Green Deal Installers.
The improvements aim to reduce the energy bills of the building operators and the costs of the installation are added to the electricity bill. The estimated savings on the total energy bills will always equal or exceed the cost of the work; otherwise the improvements will not qualify for Green Deal finance. Under the Green Deal, the liability for the payments remains with the building, and does not follow the owner or occupier after they leave the building.
