In providing the lighting for Paradigm, the new ‘headquarters’ office building at Thorpe Park Leeds, Zumtobel Group was able to deliver a high quality efficient lighting solution with controls for the 31,650 sq. ft. office space, a dynamic RGB façade lit effect and an efficient, low maintenance car park solution via its Zumtobel, Thorn and acdc brands.

Thorpe Park Leeds, a major retail, leisure and business development developed by Scarborough International Properties (SIPL) in partnership with Legal & General Capital, aims to deliver nothing less than a business environment that sets the standard for the future – a true community with a sense of place, well supported with essential amenities, close to homes and with excellent transport connections. When completed, the development will incorporate nine office blocks, shopping, cinemas, cafes and restaurants, hotels and healthcare/childcare facilities, health and fitness amenities and 300 new homes on the second phase of the Estate. A new railway station at Thorpe Park associated park and ride will provide an integral part of the infrastructure that will connect this unique business, retail and leisure park to Leeds City Centre. This is one of the largest campus office developments in the UK and will provide in total 940,000 sq. ft. of office accommodation.

Working closely with KNG Building Services, Martin Raper ZG Lighting came up with a design that included 600 x 600 Omega PRO LED recessed luminaires and Chalice LED recessed downlights throughout Paradigm’s office space. Thorn’s Equaline Mini, a slim line addition to its Equaline linear range, was also installed in the building. Designed for individual and continuous linked mounting, Equaline Mini is a slim LED batten which provides seamless lighting with a consistent lit-line light across the luminaire’s entire length. Installation options include surface and suspended.

Zumtobel’s Slotlight was incorporated into the design to provide an aesthetic efficient, consistent, uniformly illuminated line. Slotlight can provide up to 20m long light lines without interruption or dark spots and with high precision and uniform illumination, even around corners.

The R2L2 road lantern delivered an efficient low maintenance solution within the carpark which has space for 122 car parking spaces. The comprehensive range of R2L2 offers extensive optical, lumen and light distribution choices for all road applications. R2L2 maximises energy savings with a wide range of intelligent lighting control solutions ranging from stand-alone dimming through to fully remote control via a central monitoring system. With an attractive, universal and integrated spigot offering flexibility through top and side entry as well as multi-position tilt adjustment R2L2 is an obvious choice.

acdc has provided its Blade Pro recessed with a custom optic and Blade Micro linear luminaires to bring the façade to life and enhance the texture with layers of light from the ground to top floor. The luminaires benefit from RGBW technology and enable the building to adopt a number of dynamic colour changing scenes.

Zumtobel Group’s ‘one stop shop’ has delivered a versatile, energy efficient, low maintenance solution for Paradigm at Thorpe Park Leeds that meets all of the stringent criteria in the initial brief.
