RST plugs from Wieland Electric have enabled electrical contractor Cool Controls to quickly upgrade refrigeration fan motors at around 50 Tesco stores in Ireland, saving on energy and ongoing maintenance costs.

As part of its wide-ranging sustainability initiatives, Tesco Ireland has been retrofitting more efficient fan motors in its refrigeration cases. The work had to be completed when the stores were closed to avoid disruption to customers.

“The benefit of using the RST plugs was that we could fit the male plug to the fan motors prior to visiting the store, thus reducing on-site time,” recalled Peter Dee of Cool Controls. “It also meant that when we removed the old fan motors all we had to do was connect the female plug to the fan motor cable loom, avoiding additional alterations to the internal wiring of the cases – another time-saving feature.”

A further benefit of this plug and play approach is that, should any faults occur with the motors in the future, refrigeration engineers will be able to quickly replace them by re-using the plug on the faulty fan motor.

“The high specification and ease of installation of the Wieland RST plug proved to be perfect for this project,” Peter Dee concluded.
