Veolia has been confirmed as a finalist in the prestigious Responsible Business of the Year Award, run by Business in the Community, the Prince’s Responsible Business Network.

The company has been shortlisted following the implementation of its successful ‘Resourcing the World’ strategy that has turned environmental services on its head. Veolia has driven corporate responsibility and sustainability performance by moving away from business as usual and becoming a manufacturer of green products and renewable energy.

Estelle Brachlianoff, Senior Executive Vice President of Veolia UK and Ireland said: “We are addressing the biggest single issue our planet faces, namely the lack of resources to meet the needs of the 7.2 billion people living here now, let alone the forecast 9.6 billion by 2050.

“As a leading global provider of environmental services in waste, water and energy, we know the take-make-dispose model is dead – so we are challenging the norm by promoting the circular economy. Through collaboration with customers, partners and policy makers in the area of sustainability we looking to lead by example but it’s how we influence others, by Resourcing the World, that will make the real difference if the planet is going to have sufficient capacity for all our needs.”

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said: “The Responsible Business Awards give much needed visibility to organisations who are putting responsible behaviour at the heart of how they do business. The finalists are each playing their part to create a fairer society and more sustainable future by bringing to life the practical role that businesses can take to address some of our most pressing issues. We congratulate Veolia for being an inspirational example for others to learn from.”

The award champions responsible business in the UK and abroad taking action to address social and environmental issues as well as having the ability to positively transform their communities.

The overall winner will be announced in London at Business in the Community’s Annual Responsible Business Gala Dinner on 7th July.
