Tottenham Hotspur scores with KNX

Constructed on a greenfield site, the two storey training centre boasts eleven outdoor pitches, including one artificial surface and ten natural grass pitches. The development has been designed with ecological sensitivity in mind and it was for this reason that the Jung KNX lighting control system from The Wandsworth Group was specified by Mott MacDonald. The system will control the exterior lighting for the site’s numerous car parks and its helipad.

The club originally wanted a very low-tech solution to control the external lighting but as the club’s requirements developed they needed to find a system that, whilst remaining simple to use, also offered the greater functionality.  The KNX system fitted the specification and with the backing of the Wandsworth Group Mott Macdonald felt comfortable in specifying a new product.

Zonal control

The KNX lighting control system splits the training facility’s outdoor areas into five zones and control of the lighting for each zone is centralised by a Jung Facility Pilot; an advanced software and wall mounted, touch-screen panel.  Located within the site’s security lodge, the Facility Pilot touch-screen combines monitoring, visualisation and control of the lighting control system, enabling personnel to select individual zones for manual switching or activate pre-programmed scenes. The system can even be accessed remotely via a secure internet connection, allowing returning teams to activate welcome-mode lighting later or earlier to match a delayed or early return.

The KNX Facility Pilot combines complex back end technology with a very simple to operate user interface.  As a result, Tottenham Hotspur was able to install a sophisticated lighting control system to meet the training facility’s needs but retained a high level of flexibility in its day-to-day operation. Any trained KNX integrator can help them enhance, adapt or extend the system quickly, simply and cost effectively should the club’s needs change in the future.
