SPIE, independent European multi-technical services, has acquired Scotshield Fire and Security. The move, which will enable SPIE to develop its expertise in Intelligent Buildings, sees it entering a new market which demonstrates natural affiliations with its existing services portfolio.
Established in Scotland, in 1998, Scotshield provides fire detection, security alarms, access control and closed circuit television systems. Its service offering includes design, supply, installation, integration, service to maintenance with long-term maintenance and framework contracts. The company’s strong recurring client base and balanced portfolio, where 46 per cent of business constitutes new installations, saw it take sales of £23m in 2014 (fiscal year ending May 2014).
Scotshield manages, on average, 200 concurrent installation projects and covers 8,000 sites with service and maintenance contracts. Its alignment with SPIE UK will enable it to widen its service offering through increased investment and market knowledge, expanding its reach and projects across the UK.
James Thoden van Velzen, CEO of SPIE UK, comments: “This acquisition is an excellent opportunity for both companies to develop their businesses and reach new customer bases across the UK. Scotshield’s range of solutions has a strong synergy with our own and is therefore a strong fit for existing clients across the rest of the UK, many of whom will be interested in the new services we have to offer.”
