CIBSE Certification Ltd has been awarded UKAS Accreditation for personnel certification for its Low Carbon Consultants Scheme.
The Low Carbon Consultants scheme currently covers three aspects: Building Design, Building Operation and Computer Based Simulation Evaluation of the Environmental Performance of Buildings and Calculation of CO2 Emissions Rates. There are now over 600 people on the register and a huge number of training courses still to take place over the coming months.
Gaining UKAS Accreditation gives CIBSE Certification and the certification schemes it operates a level of credibility and value that is not available any other way. This has been gained thanks to their software partners IES, Hevacomp and EDSL who have all helped with the process of gaining Accreditation.
CIBSE Certification Ltd was established by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers Services (CIBSE) early in 2007 specifically to offer certification services.
The Low Carbon Consultants Scheme ensures that a body of professionals whose competence in Low Carbon Design, Building Operation or Simulation (calculation of energy performance) has been tested. Upon meeting the acceptance criteria they are placed on the register thus giving their clients the reassurance that the design of their building is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Building Regulations Part L (Conservation of Fuel and Power) and provides evidence to Building Control Officers that compliance is being signed off by a suitably qualified professional.
During 2008 the register will be extended to include Non-Domestic Energy Assessor accreditation in response to the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations.
UKAS is the United Kingdom Accreditation Service and is the sole national accreditation body recognised by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification services. Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates that CIBSE Certification has the competence, impartiality and performance capability to evaluate and offer certification to those individuals that meet the relevant criteria for the Low Carbon Consultants Scheme.
