Following a cost analysis, TridonicAtco has worked in collaboration with lighting solutions provider, Weblight, to reduce energy costs and CO² emissions at The St Helier Hospital in Carshalton, Surrey. The project involved the installation of TridonicAtco’s DSI Smart System on half the lighting on the two main corridors of the hospital, in conjunction with ECO ballasts.
St Helier Hospital is managed by the Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust and has over 600 beds, in addition to a full range of diagnostic facilities, including Pathology, Radiology, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and spiral CT Scanning, Ultrasound and Vascular Diagnostic Services. St Helier Hospital also has a busy Accident & Emergency Department and a broad range of outpatient facilities. The Renal Unit provides acute renal care, dialysis and transplantation.
Throughout the project, emphasis is on combining patient comfort with low cost of ownership. This has been achieved through the use of long-life, energy efficient T8 and T5 light sources installed by Weblight. TridonicAtco’s DSI Smart System allows 10% dimming when not in use and is simple to use and even easier to programme using the hand held programmer.
With the installation of DSI Smart, St Helier Hospital was able to achieve an 11% energy saving and a total reduction of 4.3 tonnes of CO². Every aspect of this lighting project takes account of the ongoing facilities management requirements as well as addressing the visual and performance needs of the hospital.
