Graham Manly, HVCA president in 2009/10, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the building engineering services sector.

A chartered engineer, a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and a member of the Institute of Refrigeration, Mr Manly served as CIBSE president in 2004/05.

He was chairman of the Building Services Research and Information Association from 1991 to 1993, and has served on the board of SummitSkills, the sector skills council for building services engineering, since its formation in 2003.

Technical innovation

Graham Manly was a member of the HVCA Council from 1986 to 1995, to which he returned, as president elect, in 2008. He currently serves as chairman of the Association’s Communications Committee, and has been a member of its Technical Committee for almost 40 years.

Educated at the National College of Heating, Ventilating, Refrigeration and Fan Engineering (now part of London South Bank University), he joined mechanical services contractor A. G. Manly & Co in 1972, and was appointed managing director ten years later. The company was acquired by Gratte Brothers Group in 2000 and he is currently Gratte’s business development director, with special responsibility for technical innovation.
