Simmtronic has supplied the lighting controls for 30 Gresham Street – an impressive office development at the centre of the Square Mile in the City of London. The building has a two-storey glazed entrance and huge floor plates which together provide some 400,000 sq ft usable floor space. Additional features include a roof terrace and two basement car parking levels.

For the Cat A fit out, Simmtronic provided a comprehensive lighting control backbone, using its proprietary SPECS3 digital technology, ready for formatting to the requirements of incoming tenants. The fully addressable switching scheme employed zonal switchplates and included automated emergency lighting testing in the core areas.

When the building was let, ISG InteriorExterior, a specialist provider of new build and refurbishment fit-out services was appointed to carry out the interior fit-out. Simmtronic was commissioned to supply the electrical contractor, T. Clarke Plc, with a tailored lighting control scheme for the Cat B fit-out of the whole building. Building on the backbone system it incorporated key functions appropriate to each area of this extensive office development. These included: presence detection, dimming, scene-setting, AV interfacing and sliding partition linking. For two dealer floors where DALI technology has been employed, Simmtronic was able to provide DALI-compatible lighting control modules from within its proprietary SPECS3 digital product ranges.

Simmtronic has completed more than 600 commercial projects, supplying future-proof, fully addressable lighting control systems for many of the UK’s largest and most prestigious corporate developments.

Reliability is key at food centre

Refrigerant plant for the new distribution centre for Midland Chilled Foods (MCF) in Basingstoke has been manufactured by Bitzer UK. The installation was completed by contractor 24 Seven Cooling in just an eight week period to meet MCF’s opening date deadline.

There are four refrigerated sections in the centre including a 455 square metre chilled intake area; a 1323 cubic metre low temperature freezer store; 14385 cubic metre chilled warehouse and 1050 cubic metre despatch area.

For the chill store, 24 Seven Cooling specified a combination of Bitzer dressed and housed condensing units as well as compressor receiver assemblies with remote Friga-Bohn condensers and coolers.

Goods-In and despatch areas have two independent systems each using Bitzer LH condensing units and Friga-Bohn high velocity dual discharge coolers. The freezer store also has three independent Bitzer/Friga-Bohn systems which can be upgraded at a later date in the event of expansion of the store.

Bitzer and Friga-Bohn products were specified on account of their proven reliability which was essential for this high profile distribution centre. Energy efficient operation was also a key consideration and wide use of electronic expansion devices has helped to ensure maximum operational efficiency.
