Great solution for St Saviours

Potterton Commercial’s prefabricated heating solution, the Paraskid, has been installed at St Saviours School in Ealing as part of a refurbishment programme which needed to be completed within the school holidays.
When consultants CAPITA Symonds specified the new heating system for the school, the company was instructed that all work had to be completed during the break to ensure as little disruption to students as possible. Understanding that a conventional floor standing boiler couldn’t be installed within this timescale, senior mechanical engineer Tim Spencer looked for a prefabricated solution.

Tim Spencer said: “St Saviour’s School had a very tight refurbishment programme, so the prefabricated Paraskid was chosen because we knew that we could have it delivered to site and installed quickly. In fact it was delivered directly onto the playground and moved straight into the boiler room.

“This was the first time I had specified a Paraskid and the installation, which was carried out by our contractors, was very smooth and simple. The school was very short on storage space, so when we took out the four floor-standing boilers and replaced them with the Paraskid the teachers were pleased to have half the room back. The existing boiler room will now be divided in two to create an extra storage area.”

The Paraskid is a skid mounted package which contains all of the components needed for a simply connect-up heating and hot water condensing boiler plant solution. At the heart of the Paraskid is the Potterton Commercial Paramount two wall hung condensing boiler, of which the 60kW and 80kW models are used in a modular format to give three output options of 120kW, 160kW and 240kW.

Richard Walker, National Sales and Marketing Manager, said: “The key issue to be considered when commissioning and installing heating systems for schools is the time sensitivity of much of the work. Generally, refurbishment work can be completed within the school holiday breaks, however this puts tremendous pressure on local authorities and their contractors to meet multiple, simultaneous commissioning and completion deadlines.

“To reduce installation time and costs, specifiers are increasingly looking towards prefabricated heating plant such as the Paraskid for a versatile solution. Every one of our Paraskid prefabricated packages is made to order, so specifiers can choose the plant which is an exact match for the requirements of the building.”
