Emma wins CIBSE award

Emma Marshall of Northumbria University has won the CIBSE/ASHRAE Graduate of the Year Award.

This well established and prestigious award, sponsored by Baxi Commercial, rewards the best graduate from a programme related to CIBSE/ASHRAE activities with a trip to the 2010 winter ASHRAE meeting in Orlando, USA.

Emma impressed the judges with her presentation on ‘Energy Efficiency in Existing Buildings; the key to creating a sustainable built environment’. The two runners up were Christopher Pountney of Bristol University and Francis Li of University College London.

All six shortlisted finalists made presentations on the same theme in front of the judging panel and CIBSE President Mike Simpson emphasised the importance of supporting graduates and outlining the Institution’s current and future training initiatives.

The CIBSE Patrons group celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a gala dinner, complete with an update on the Patrons activities and toast to the ongoing work of the group, and entertained guests with after dinner speaker Humphrey Walters who gave a motivational speech on leadership management and the business of winning.
