The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) is pleased to announce that its 11th annual competition will be taking place at Rose Bruford College, Sidcup, on Tuesday 19 March. The event, Ready Steady Light, will host 17 teams who will compete against each other by designing and setting up temporary exterior installations with a range of equipment in only 180 minutes.

Focusing on a return to basic engineering and design, teams will light the site in its natural state with designated equipment, having to overcome challenges without a budget and within the time constraints. Students enrolled in Rose Bruford College’s lighting and design BA course are supporting the event and will have an opportunity to see lighting professionals working in such a unique environment.

Each team should be led by an SLL member and each organisation will only be allowed one team. Newcomers are welcomed to take part and members of the public are welcomed to see the installations from 6pm until 8pm.

Entrants have the chance of winning the titles of Most Creative Effect, Best Technical Solution or the Peer Prize. The Most Creative Effect will be judged on the use of natural features around the site by Judges from Rose Bruford College and will be sponsored by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). The Best Technical Solution will be judged on the consideration of health and safety, light pollution and energy use by an expert SLL panel. The Peer Prize will be judged as the favourite of all the contestants.
