Compact SMD PCB terminal blocks reduce space requirements for connections

00268654_0Stand R51 at LuxLive 2016 (23-24 November, ExCeL London) sees a first appearance by electrical specialist WAGO, showcasing its versatile range of compact SMD PCB terminal blocks

With the smallest variant measuring 2.7 mm thick, WAGO’s SMD family of PCB terminal blocks offers a flat and compact design to reduce the space required for connections, while helping to prevent on-board shadowing for uniform light distribution. Direct push-in connection for solid conductors makes installation quick and tool-free, while ensuring that connections remain safe, secure and robust. The SMD family, available in 1- to 3- pole configurations, can be used in a wide range of LED applications from conventionally wired LED spotlights up to industrially wired, recessed ceiling luminaires. The terminal blocks can accommodate a broad range of conductors, making them highly versatile across a wide range of different industries.

00367251_0Also on the stand is a demonstration of WAGO’s custom modular trunking for buildings. The solution combines all control, power and lighting into one integrated system. Assembled and tested at WAGO’s purpose-built facility, it can be installed on-site by non-qualified personnel, dramatically reducing labour costs and installation times.

The solution uses WAGO’s WINSTA® pluggable connection and cabling system to connect all electrical installations and components with each other, and distribute power and data to and from I/O modules to monitor and control various automated systems throughout a building. This “plug and play” system can be largely installed by unskilled workers, and is specifically designed to avoid mis-mating, significantly reducing installation errors. Qualified electricians are only required on-site for final wiring and testing, allowing the customer to benefit from shorter lead times and the opportunity for more effective distribution of labour.

00287922_0Elsewhere on the stand, WAGO will be demonstrating its flexROOM building management system, which can be used to quickly and easily realise energy-efficient and standard-compliant building and lighting automation in office and administrative buildings. The system’s ease of use, and support for all major communication protocols including DALI, KNX, BACnet/IP, enables configuration and reconfiguration tasks to be carried out without the need for specialist support, saving time and reducing costs.

00287935_0Other products on show include connectors and modular wiring for luminaires, including Linect options. Also on display will be the 221 screwless compact splicing connector. Forty percent smaller than previous generations, the 221 connector allows more connections to be fitted into smaller spaces, while halving installation time compared to screw terminals.
