A Welsh school has reached grade A status thanks to advanced insulated panel technology from the Benchmark range.
Ysgol Bro Alun is a new Welsh Medium school in Gwersyllt, near Wrexham. Opened in September 2013 at a cost of £5.9million, the school provides space for 240 children aged between 3 and 11.
The new build is a 2,000sqm single storey, steel frame and cladded building with external car parking and play spaces. Architects specified nearly 3,000sqm of Benchmark Roofliner with a Keybemo Standing Seam finish for the roof, with 996sqm of Benchmark Karrier Engineered System for the walls, to support the façades. A range of façade finishes were chosen to complement the build, including Ceramic Tile (terracotta), Ceramic Granite, Oak Timber and Coloured Glass (green shade). The range of colours, textures and finishes used gives new pupils a smart and inspiring space to learn.
Contractor Harry Fairclough Construction was brought into work on the build. Dave Harry, Commercial Manager at the company comments: “Working directly with Benchmark and their approved installer RH Roofing and Cladding Ltd, meant all aspects of their team were on hand throughout the course of the works, providing a level of service that mirrored the high quality of the products supplied and the seamless installation on site. To this end both ourselves and the client are delighted with the final end result and the impact Benchmark has had on the building finish overall.”
The plan for the build was dictated by a number of different factors, ranging from educational building standards, through sensitivity to the local area, to compliance with the council’s energy efficiency guidelines.
