Zumtobel’s popular Mellow Light fitting is celebrating its thirtieth year of production this year and this trail blazing luminaire is still in as much demand today as it was back in 1988.  Although the Mellow Light range has been modified and extended over the years to adapt to technology and customer demands, it is still the number one choice for lighting designers and architects alike when specifying solutions for office applications.

Mellow Light’s initial design included a square recessed fitting with two concave white metal reflectors utilising a compact fluorescent lamp and covered with a perforated plate.  The concept of a white luminaire on a white ceiling created a new aesthetic and the well balanced, uniform light output quickly became popular with specifiers.

The Mellow Light concept has evolved over the years to provide perfectly dispersed LED points that continue to provide a well-balanced illumination of work space that helps prevent glare and the so-called ‘cave effect’. Today’s Mellow Light supports the human biorhythm, controlling the spectrum of light emitted to mimic the cycle of natural light and help provide the right type of light at the right time of day. The closer artificial light comes to resemble daylight helps to create an environment where workers can feel comfortable, focused and alert.

Mellow Light provides dynamic colours of 3000 K to 6000K and the lenticular optic offers glare suppression with up to 3500 lumens, with a homogeneous appearance.   With a shielded lumen package of up to 4800 lumens, the crystal optic is ideal for working areas that require more than 500 lux.

Today’s Mellow Light range continues to adapt to the latest trends and now includes linear and square luminaires and a selection of optional colours to allow for complete integration into today’s interior architecture.
