WYG has appointed Dr Stephen Bolt as its new Chief Scientist to drive forward the company’s scientific and regulatory services.

With more than 30 years experience in scientific services (including 10 years in academia and 13 in the water industry), Stephen has had over 35 scientific papers published, is widely recognised as a presenter at national and international conferences, and is well versed in the scientific arena. In addition, six years of experience at senior level within environmental consultancies means that Stephen also has a deep understanding of the commercial and practical requirements of WYG’s clients.

Speaking about his new position, Stephen said: “I am looking forward to taking up my new role as Chief Scientist for WYG. I have worked for the organisation for three years and understand the fundamentals of the company and the needs of our clients. This, combined with my wide ranging environmental background, expertise in sustainability and water related legislation gives me a great foundation to bring this role to life. I am also looking forward to being able to drive forward scientific and commercial best practice, using the principles of sustainability, which will contribute to UK and global environmental improvements.

“There has never been a more challenging time for our clients. The new Coalition Government is instigating a fundamental review of the regulatory system which will bring both challenges and opportunities to many of our clients. This new role, coupled with WYG’s in-depth knowledge of the changing planning and regulatory landscape, will greatly assist our clients in understanding and delivering best value and sustainable projects.

“One of the aims of the role will be to reinforce our three-part strategy through the development of research related projects and white papers and to raise awareness of the company with key procurement and regulatory communities, both in the UK and in the international arena.”
