Now in its 3rd successful year, H&V09 has become the major UK heating and ventilating event within the industry’s calendar. Taking place at the NEC in Birmingham on 24-26 February 2009, H&V09 will provide a first-class showcase for all that’s new in the sector.
H&V09 is the must-attend event for H&V installers, contractors and consultants, as well as influential commercial end-users and promises to provide one of the most effective mediums for establishing, building and maintaining relationships with key decision makers and purchasers in the H&V sector.
The exhibition
The 2007 event was supported by more than 130 exhibitors representing all aspects of the H&V industry, and attracted a final visitor attendance of 7,985. This year’s event will provide the perfect platform for companies seeking to showcase new products, systems and equipment which can help specifiers, contractors, engineers and end-users improve heating performance and reduce environmental impact.
While offering a showcase for the very latest technologies for delivering low energy, low carbon solutions from many of the top heating and ventilating brands, the event will also be packed full of exciting, interactive features and initiatives designed to provide essential business information to those attending. At the heart of these attractions will be a comprehensive seminar programme devised to explore and debate the key industry issues. A separate Skills Centre programme has also been designed to offer a more handson, interactive approach, and will give delegates a unique opportunity to benefit from the depth of experience and expertise on offer.
H&V09 is fully supported by the industry’s leading associations, FETA (Federation of Environmental Trade Associations), the ICOM Energy Association (Industrial and Commercial Energy Association) and the HVCA (Heating & Ventilating Contractors Association).
Seminar programme
Reflecting the show’s theme of ‘Low carbon cooling and heating solutions’, the free seminar programme will discuss many of the energy and environmental issues challenging the sector, exploring the related changes to technology, legislation and regulation for visitors. Presentations will be given by influential experts from across the industry, such as Clive Betts, MP, the Chair of the All Party Urban Development Group.
Central to this theme, day two of the exhibition sees Paul Decort, Communities and Local Government, reveal what the industry can expect from the next revision of the Building Regulations in 2010, bringing to light what the Government may have in store to lower UK carbon emissions. This will be followed later in the day by the Big Debate, chaired by ex- CIBSE president Terry Wyatt, Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers, which will examine what will drive the uptake of renewables and microgeneration. The panel debate will feature key industry figures, such as Clive Betts, MP, the Chair of the All Party Urban Development Group (APUDG) and Ant Wilson, Head of Sustainable Development at Faber Maunsell, who will give their opinion on the current state of the renewables market and the way forward for the industry.
Also taking place on the show floor is the H&V09 Skills Centre, which is set to be another major attraction at the event. Installers, engineers and contractors visiting H&V09 will benefit from a programme of free practical advice and handson demonstration sessions at the Skills Centre. The Skills Centre will allow visitors to refresh their installation and servicing techniques under the guidance of industry experts as well as giving an update on the technical, legislative and health and safety topics at the heart of their daily work.
RAC09
Located alongside H&V09, RAC09 returns to the NEC and promises to be as important and influential as ever in the context of the industry’s growing concerns with climate change, energy usage and environmental issues.
RAC09 is a must-attend event in the industry calendar, primarily because it truly represents the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector. RAC09 offers the perfect environment for building services consultants, contractors and installers as well as end-users from retail, public sector, commercial and industrial markets, to discover the latest low carbon innovations and products across the market.
The exhibition
The 2007 event was supported by more than 170 exhibitors representing all aspects of the industry, and attracted a final visitor attendance of 8,390. Visitors to this year’s event will be able to evaluate the very latest products and services available from a number of top brands.
The Federation of Environmental Trade Associations (FETA) is endorsing the event, alongside the British Refrigeration Association (BRA), the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR), the Heating & Ventilating Contractors Association (HVCA) and the London Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Society. This support will help provide visitors with information on the environmental issues facing the sector and related changes to sustainable technology, legislation and regulation.
Seminar programme
The free seminar programme which runs alongside the exhibition will undoubtedly be one of the centrepiece attractions with an impressive line-up of speakers set to address key issues facing the cooling industry. Each day of the programme will focus on a specific key theme for the industry with day one examining the R22 phase out, day two focusing on the F-Gas Regulations and day three turning to end-user issues.
Opening the programme, day one of the seminars will examine the Ozone Depleting Substance Regulation and what it really means to the industry and end-users. With time running out to comply it is estimated that at least 40% of all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in the UK still operates on R22, so the time to change is now. Key speakers on day two include Ray Gluckman from Enviros and F Gas Support, who will explain legal responsibilities and the recycling and recovery options on offer. Meanwhile, an industry panel will debate the merits of R22 alternatives, while the return of natural refrigerants will be the focus of the last session of the day.
With the continuing roll out of the F-Gas Regulations posing increasing challenges to the RAC industry, day two of the seminar programme will thrash out how to comply with the legislation. Core to the day will be a seminar session where Jane Gartshore, President of the Institute of Refrigeration, will explain how the industry can take a proactive approach to prevent refrigerant leaks.
Meanwhile on the last day of RAC09 the seminar programme will turn to the needs of the enduser, welcoming back equipment buyers from the leading UK supermarkets, who at RAC07 announced ambitious plans to adopt or trial new green technologies and asking whether rising costs have caused a rethink?
Taking place on the show floor, the Service Engineer Skills Centre is set to be a major attraction at the event. Sponsored once again by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, it will focus on the practical concerns that are being raised by many of the energy and environmental issues challenging the sector, such as the R22 phase out and F-gas Regulations. Using live demonstrations and real-life filmed examples, the industry experts leading the sessions will give visitors invaluable access to their experience and offer the chance to ask them questions either during the presentation or afterwards.
