Members of a successful bidding consortium are celebrating as the Rugby Football League (RFL) confirmed that Bristol has been chosen to host matches during the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. The first International Rugby League to be played in the city for over 100 years will be played at the Memorial Stadium.

Smedegaard Pumps sponsored Somerset Vikings Rugby League Club, who are associated with the current Superleague champions Leeds Rhinos, and with the help from Smedegaard Pumps they announced that they will request that some world cup players go to Somerset for local young people to meet world cup stars and watch them train. This means that young people near to Smedegaard’s Head office in Somerset may see internationally recognised athletes whilst they prepare for their world cup games at Bristol.

The Vikings have worked hard this year, they have won the South West League and work with local schools and young people including children 7, 8 and 9 years old, and also 13 and 14 year olds which has all been made possible with Smedegaard’s sponsorship of the club.
