Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has been awarded a £2.9m contract by Vinci Construction to supply mechanical and electrical services for Wolverhampton University Performance Hub.

The 10-month contract will include design, installation, testing and commissioning of all electrical, mechanical and plumbing services for a £10m arts centre which will be open to the public and provide students with state-of-the-art performance space for dance, drama and music.

A 120-seat theatre will be created with BBES installing a specialist acoustic attenuation system to reduce sound spilling into other areas of the building. BBES will install power supplies for a theatrical lighting rig as part of the contract.

An eco-friendly combined heat and power plant will be installed for on-site electrical generation for the new four storey facility which is being built on the site of a former teaching block and halls of residence at the University’s Walsall Campus. Work will be complete in summer 2011.
