Graham Manly, HVCA president in 2009/10, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the building engineering services sector.

A chartered engineer, a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and a member of the Institute of Refrigeration, Mr Manly served as CIBSE president in 2004/05.

Minister promotes skills for the Green Deal

Climate Change Minister Greg Barker has launched a partnership to ensure the UK has the right skills to implement the Green Deal, the government�s flagship policy to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.

The Green Deal aims to enable private firms to offer consumers energy improvements to their homes, communities and businesses at no upfront cost and to recoup payments as a charge in instalments on the energy bill.

Chapel enters the modern age

Rosslyn Chapel, a Category A listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument, now features a Building Management System (BMS) supplied by Priva as part of a wider refurbishment project that has seen the construction of a new visitor centre and a special biomass plant that heats the whole site.

The Priva BMS, which was engineered and installed by Campbell Control Services, brings this 15th Century building firmly into the modern era in terms of cost efficient, environmentally friendly building management, all without any alterations to the historic fabric of the structure.

Closed systems and closed minds won�t solve the problems we face in tackling climate change and catering for a global population that already exceeds seven billion according to the United Nations and is increasingly living and working in buildings that need controlling.
