Climate Change Minister Greg Barker has launched a partnership to ensure the UK has the right skills to implement the Green Deal, the government’s flagship policy to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.

The Green Deal aims to enable private firms to offer consumers energy improvements to their homes, communities and businesses at no upfront cost and to recoup payments as a charge in instalments on the energy bill.

Chapel enters the modern age

Rosslyn Chapel, a Category A listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument, now features a Building Management System (BMS) supplied by Priva as part of a wider refurbishment project that has seen the construction of a new visitor centre and a special biomass plant that heats the whole site.

The Priva BMS, which was engineered and installed by Campbell Control Services, brings this 15th Century building firmly into the modern era in terms of cost efficient, environmentally friendly building management, all without any alterations to the historic fabric of the structure.

Controlling the future

Closed systems and closed minds won’t solve the problems we face in tackling climate change and catering for a global population that already exceeds seven billion according to the United Nations and is increasingly living and working in buildings that need controlling.

The open systems approach that encourages collaboration between manufacturers is therefore the only way forward if we are to facilitate innovative thinking from systems builders and integrators.

The modern workplace has to work harder than ever before. It must reflect corporate values, express something of the organisation’s brand, allow people to work to the best of their ability as well as look after their wellbeing, keep touch with the pace of changing technology, minimise downtime, meet the demands of an ever changing legislative environment and keep costs down. In short, it is an essential tool in meeting key organisational objectives.
