A landmark win for Delmatic
Published:  05 August, 2010

Lighting Control expert Delmatic has secured the contract to supply a lighting management system for the new London Bridge Tower, more commonly known as The Shard of Glass.

Part of a £2bn London Bridge Partnership with new investor consortium London Bridge Quarter Limited, The Shard has been designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and at 310m high, the 93,000sq m, 83 storey building will be the tallest structure in Europe.

The bottom half of the building will comprise public areas with thirty floors of office space while the upper floors will house a mid level viewing piazza, restaurants, five star hotel, apartments and, at the top, a public viewing gallery with panoramic views across London.

Delmatic are supplying a system to control lighting throughout the shell and core areas that will consist of plug-in switching and dimming modules within lobbies and Dali modules for staircases and washrooms. In addition to this, the Delmatic system provides comprehensive emergency light testing and monitoring throughout the building.

The consultant for the project is Arup, the main contractor is Mace and the electrical contractor CHS. Part of a regeneration of the London Bridge area, the development will also see the refurbishment of the adjacent New London Bridge House with a piazza linking both buildings.
