Variety is the spice of life
Published:  02 November, 2009

Pilkington has launched a new range of products following the cessation of manufacture and processing of wired and translucent glass in the UK last year. Pilkington Pyroshield 2 will replace the long-serving Pilkington Pyroshield range, while Pilkington Optifloat Opal is an excellent replacement for the existing translucent glass.

The Pilkington Pyroshield 2 portfolio includes two of the four variants of the existing range; Pilkington Pyroshield 2 Safety Clear and Pilkington Pyroshield 2 Texture. The current Pilkington Pyroshield portfolio will continue to be available for a limited period of time in certain formats and sizes; however, it will gradually be replaced by new products over the coming months.

Pilkington has the appropriate fire test evidence, approvals and certificates in place and both types are suitable for 30 minutes integrity only fire resistance. However, it should be noted that the Texture version no longer has an impact safety classification. For impact safety with privacy or fire resistance periods longer than 30 minutes, alternatives are available within the Pilkington Pyrodur range.
