The flexibility of REHAU's underfloor heating system was perfectly demonstrated in the new Music School built at Headington School in Oxford where the system has been installed on battens under an acoustic floor.
Installers and REHAU Authorised Partners Anders Heating used the REHAU aluminium diffusion plate system to position the PE-Xa pipework in 0.8mm thick grooved plates fixed to the battens across a 630m2 floor area.
The high conductivity aluminium plates give a level surface for the acoustic floor and deliver even and consistent warmth across the whole floor area. The gentle heat from the system, with return water typically circulating at 38ēC, means that it will not impact on either the performance or the appearance of the timber acoustic floor.
The plates were first stapled to the battens and joists on top of insulating fibre glass wool and the 16mm REHAU universal pipework was then simply clipped into the grooves.
The REHAU system was chosen by consultants Gifford who wanted a solution specifically designed for timber floors. They also selected a BMS system to control the heating output in different zones within the new building.
Headington School is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 3 - 18. The separate, new Music School has been built by main contractors Kingerlee as part of an expansion of the school's music department.
REHAU offers a complete range of installation options for its underfloor heating, including conventional fixing onto rails, systems for floating and sprung floors, industrial subsurface heating and below ceiling fixing for first floors in domestic properties.
