Trox milestones at Canary Wharf
Published:  27 June, 2008

Trox has reached a significant milestone at Canary Wharf having supplied a considerable amount of products and terminal air conditioning systems to buildings for some of the worlds leading legal and financial institutions.

David Leatherbarrow, Managing Director of Trox UK, said: "This is the largest concentration of Trox terminal air distribution systems on a single development anywhere in the world. Canary Wharf clients are among the world's most demanding customers as comfort levels governed by our equipment and systems are critical in these prestigious Head Office locations".

To achieve these high standards of comfort it was essential to test each system for specific buildings against the design criteria. The range of equipment supplied included air diffusers, fan VAV, VAV, integrated service modules and fan coils. The test would generally be a full mock-up conducted in the laboratories within the Trox Technical Centre and witnessed by the design team. On some occasions the VAV units themselves were calibrated on a special rig and with the controls experts present, pre-commissioned in the factory rather than on site.

Trox are also supplying a validation service and wherever possible upgrading old VAV boxes that have been installed for over 10 to 15 years. Regular maintenance on the VAV units is also carried out further extending the life of the system. Where boxes need replacing Trox have undertaken a complete refurbishment contract and replaced units irrespective of original manufacturer.

New systems favouring the air water approach as with multi service chilled beams and fan coils are now being considered. One very interesting development is the new VAV fan coils which are currently being designed for a new building at this prestigious development. With VAV fan coils CO2 emissions can be reduced and the terminal air conditioning system far exceeds the requirements as stipulated in Part L of the building regulations.
