CIBSE Certification's application to provide an accredited Energy Assessors scheme has been approved by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) making it one of the first organisations to be given the go ahead to accredit Energy Assessors.
The Low Carbon Energy Assessors scheme is a continuation of the work the Institution has done over the last year to produce a register of Low Carbon Consultants. There are over 700 Low Carbon Consultants and CIBSE Certification expects a large number of these consultants to take the top up training required to become a Low Carbon Energy Assessor.
Low Carbon Energy Assessors will be trained and accredited to produce Display Energy Certificates (DECs) and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), and will undertake regular CPD to ensure an ongoing high quality of service. CIBSE training courses for those who want to become Energy Assessors will start in March 2008.
CIBSE President John Armstrong said: "We are delighted to receive confirmation of approval for our Low Carbon Energy Assessors scheme. It is a significant step in ensuring that CIBSE Certification continues to provide energy professionals and the wider industry with the training and tools necessary to improve a building's energy performance."
CIBSE is committed to providing members and the wider industry with the knowledge and understanding to reduce carbon emissions in buildings. CIBSE Energy Assessors will meet the required standard of energy assessment in the UK, they will also provide the high levels of competency needed to improve the energy performance of a building and reduce carbon emissions.
CIBSE Certification will provide accreditation for the following activities:
- EPCs for non-domestic buildings
- DECs for non-domestic publicly accessed buildings
- EPCs for domestic premises
- Air Conditioning assessments for complex systems
- Solar powered air conditioning: the facts
- Air source heat pumps - how do they compare to...
- Shedding light on office lighting design

- A Glossary of construction terms
- Avoiding corrosion
- Providing safe hot water is vital

There is an obvious need for the industry to be more energy efficient and pay more attention to the ways in which energy is both used and wasted. Do you think we have the products on the market to meet our needs?
