Mark Brenner, CEO for BEST (Building Engineering Services Training), has announced major developments in BEST’s training services, including a 50% increase in the number of UK apprenticeship places available through BEST next year.
Along with Jack McDavid, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA), Sarah Wicks, Education and Training Officer from the HVCA, and Martin Payne, Managing Director of new alliance partner Electrical Assessment Services UK Ltd (EAS), BEST expressed how these developments will greatly assist in its aim to promote and support the building services engineering (BSE) sector as a whole.
The recent introduction of BEST Electrical Assessment Services sees BEST and EAS deliver electro-technical apprenticeships and skills enhancement. This strategic alliance combines the talents of both organisations to provide an innovative and flexible delivery service for electro-technical apprenticeships in England and Wales. BEST Electrical Assessment Services will also support adult learners through APL (Approved Prior Learning) and Train to Gain, as well as a wide range of courses to include the new 17th Edition Wiring Regulations.
This shift mirrors the overall migration towards a unified industry, most notably expressed by the potential convergence of the ECA and the HVCA, helping to develop building services engineering and fill skills shortages in the UK. This partnership is particularly significant in light of the responsibility of the sector to assist in meeting carbon emission targets, by providing enough engineers who are appropriately skilled in installing and maintaining micro-generation technologies.
Mark Brenner commented: “This is an exciting time for the BSE sector and the labour force in general, with the Leitch Review citing the need for five million more skilled jobs as the UK enters the biggest transformation in employment the economy has seen for a 100 years.
