Mercury Recycling has been awarded a contract to collect and recycle, end of life lamps from 40 Vodafone premises across the UK. Mercury’s specially designed Lampsafe containers are located on-site for the safe storage and transportation of used lamps.
Mercury’s Lampsafe programme ensures simple and straightforward compliance with the new Landfill and WEEE Directives. These purpose designed weatherproof containers are themselves manufactured from recycled HD polyethylene, and can reduce related health and safety risks on site.
Each container can hold up to 150 x 6ft T8 fluorescent tubes, or 300 x 3ft tubes or 450 x 2ft tubes or a combination of each size. Each is supplied complete with security strapping and high visibility safety labelling.
The five year contract is currently confined to lamp disposal but may be extended to include other equipment covered by the WEEE Directive in the future as Mercury Recycling has recently extended its recycling facilities so that it can handle all such waste.
