The Domestic Building Services Panel of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and HVCA Publications here launched a Solar Heating Design and Installation Guide, a comprehensive manual that provides vital information to help with the specification, design, and installation of both domestic and commercial solar heating systems. The 162-page book has been compiled to assist professional heating engineers with hot water systems that produce heat energy principally from the sun.
Bob Towse, Head of the HVCA Technical and Safety Department, said: “With solar heating being such a hot topic, it is imperative for heating installers to have a thorough understanding of solar heating systems and the benefits of converting light energy into electricity.”
The comprehensive guide gives essential advice on everything from commissioning to the maintenance of most solar heating systems. It clearly explains solar heating terminology, demonstrates installation techniques including weatherproofing, and introduces the commissioning procedure of a solar system. It also lists some key problems of fitting a solar system and how they can be overcome, as well as covering health and safety considerations.
The guide is to be read in conjunction with other publications in the series produced by the CIBSE Domestic Building Services Panel.
