The worlds original architect lamp, the L-1 from Luxo, is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Designed in 1937 by Jac Jacobsen, it is a prime example of how versatility, quality and stylish design can work together to produce one of the worlds all time classics.
The L-1 is now available in four versions; the L-1 Table is the classic forerunner of all self-balanced desk lamps and is globally referred to as The Luxo Lamp. A popular luminaire for commercial or domestic use, the L-1 Table can be supplied with a table base or a table clamp. The L-1 Wall, a wall mounted luminaire, is suitable for use in bedrooms, hotels, libraries and other applications where a fixed fitting with the versatility of a moveable unit is required. The freestanding L-1 Floor can be positioned anywhere that illumination is required.
The L-1 range has been designed for use with 60W incandescent or energy saving Megaman Ultra Compact 9W lamps. Many attempts have been made to improve on the L-1 with its flexible, spring balanced arm and even more to copy it but the L-1 remains one of the worlds leading task lights and over 25 million have been sold to date.
