The HVCA has become a signatory to the Construction Commitments charter developed by the Strategic Forum for Construction in relation to the 2012 Olympic Games.
To assist the industry in the successful delivery of the London Olympics infrastructure, the Strategic Forum has formed a 2012 Task Group, which will facilitate liaison between industry, Government, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG).
The Construction Commitments document identifies six elements that are seen as vital to the safe, on-time and on-budget delivery of the London Olympics. These are: procurement and integration; commitment to people; client leadership; sustainability; design quality; and health and safety.
HVCA Chief Executive Robert Higgs explained that the Olympic Games offered a unique opportunity for the UK construction industry to showcase its very best elements - in particular: “By undertaking sustainable, energy-efficient projects that will provide longterm benefits for local communities and the nation as a whole”.
Individual members of the HVCA/ECA Joint Major Contractors' Group - which comprises the UK's largest mechanical and electrical services contractors - have also signed up to the Construction Commitments concept.

There is an obvious need for the industry to be more energy efficient and pay more attention to the ways in which energy is both used and wasted. Do you think we have the products on the market to meet our needs?
