AMEC wins major contract
Published:  26 October, 2006

AMEC has secured two contracts worth £85m to deliver new further education colleges in eastern England.

The first project, a £50m redevelopment scheme for Hertford Regional College will see the college’s Ware and Broxbourne campuses re-built with modern educational facilities covering approximately 18,000 square metres.

AMEC is working with the college on front-end and value engineering studies prior to construction work starting in March 2007. Construction at both campuses is being carefully planned to ensure the college remains fully operational during the work which is scheduled for completion in June 2009.

The second contract, a £35m redevelopment project for Suffolk College, Ipswich, will include the new build of around 22,100 square metres of multi-level education facilities providing accommodation for vocational training, specialist and general teaching classrooms and central and specific administration. Construction work will start in spring 2007 and be completed in spring 2008.

“These new projects reflect our successful strategy and strengthen our position in the education sector for which we deliver innovative and inspirational learning environments directly for Local Authorities and through major PPPs,” said Richard Oldfield, AMEC’s Sector Director for Education.
