Chalmor Ltd has been awarded a £40,000 grant by Shell Springboard towards the development of an innovative programmable electronic thermostatic radiator valve (eTRV). The low cost, easy to install eTRV kit will have the potential to shave 25% off the heating bills of many homes and small businesses, reducing the UK’s CO2 emissions by as much as 500,000 tonnes per annum.
“There are many solutions on the market to reduce heating bills but most of them are pricey and fiddly to install,” explained Chalmor Managing Director Steven Henry. “Our eTRV kit will be sensibly priced and very simple to retrofit to a radiator. We are now working hard to bring this exciting new product to market as soon as possible,” he added.
Winner of a DTI Smart Award in 2003 and long-term participant in the Shell STEP programme, Chalmor has a proven track record of developing innovative solutions to reduce energy consumption in residential, commercial, public sector and industrial applications. The company has also introduced pioneering ‘Pay As You Save’ schemes where the cost of equipment is paid for by the energy savings achieved.
Shell Springboard is a pilot programme operated by Shell that seeks to provide a financial boost to a small number of compelling business plans from across the UK. Following rigorous assessment by judges, Chalmor won through from 160 entries to win the Southern region final of the Shell Springboard competition. The company now goes through to the national finals.
