Lafarge chooses JS Actuators
Published:  29 November, 2005

JS Actuators has recently supplied three high-torque, high-speed Neptronic actuators to Lafarge Plasterboard Ltd for their manufacturing plant in Bristol. Three UB8000 Neptronic actuators were installed by BSL Brammer to close a large damper in an air handling system in Lafarge’s plaster mill.

The Neptronic range of actuators is ideal for this type of application as it includes actuators capable of torques as high as 450Nm.

Mike Philpotts, Mechanical Technician at Lafarge Plasterboard, said: “We were experiencing problems with the manual closing of a damper on a large fan in our plaster mill. Fan motors were burning out due to the damper not being manually closed in time.

“We needed an actuator with a high torque that could close this damper automatically as soon as the fan is turned on. BSL Brammer selected the Neptronic actuator for its high torque value of 200Nm. Since the Neptronic actuators have been in place we haven’t had any fan motors burn out, which has meant considerable savings.”

Lafarge Plasterboard was established in 1987 and employs around 350 people at their Bristol factory manufacturing quality drywall systems for UK and global markets.
