City Councils employs pipework protection
Published:  29 November, 2005

Recurring Problems with sludge build up in old boiler pipework installations were solved when Wandsworth Council installed the Filter-less Cobra Cyclone systems to some of its large centralised district heating systems.

The Cobra System dirt separator, incorporating an in-line CRS Dirt Collection unit, was installed to completely remove the build up of iron oxide sludge and free limescale particles, which are commonly found in close–circuit installations.

The system was proven to massively reduce the number of heating break-downs and call outs, due to heat exchangers blocking, poor heat transfer, and valves continually failing.

The major advantages that the Cobra has over other filter systems or dirt separators include, no filter media or elements to check, clean or replace, no moving parts to wear and no backwashing required, it provides continuous cleaning and filtration without maintenance with zero water or chemical loss from the water circuit, it has a compact design and the unit can be moved easily from site to site. The Cobra removes all solids down to less than 20 micron continuously, and is suitable for both heating and chilled water circuits

The Cobra cyclones complete with CRS dirt collection units have now been tested and installed at a number of large city council housing complexes, including Lambeth, Wandsworth, Chichester and Leicester, where continuous problems associated with boiler sludge and solids have been eliminated.

Waterwise Sales Manager, Ian Field said: "When the Cobra CRS dirt collection system is deployed in the installation you can actually show the customer how much sludge and solids are continually being pulled out of the Circuit."

There is an obvious need for the industry to be more energy efficient and pay more attention to the ways in which energy is both used and wasted. Do you think we have the products on the market to meet our needs?
