Major success at cooling awards
Published:  26 October, 2005

Ebm-papst UK Ltd achieved two industry accolades at the recent Cooling Industry Awards where nearly 400 refrigeration and air conditioning professionals from across the industry gathered to celebrate excellence in environmentally friendlier cooling.

The company’s first winning entry was for the Best Environmental Marketing Campaign and the judging panel commented: “Ebm-papst ran a highly focussed campaign, designed to stimulate the adoption of its energy saving fans. Launched in September 2004, to coincide with the draft revision of Part L of the Building Regulations, the CD-based initiative was designed for end users and consultants – and achieved a huge impact. This was an excellent campaign, clearly thought out and well executed. It demonstrates the power of effective marketing in promoting energy saving technology.”

The second winning entry was in the Individual Environmental Pioneer category and was won by Gert Haeussermann, the man behind the high energy efficiency fans and fan motors marketed by Ebm-papst which have made an enormous contribution to the efficiency of countless refrigeration and air conditioning installations. Gert produced the first EC motor and fan when he was a bio-medical engineer at the University of Stuttgart. Since then, he has pioneered the development, honing the technology for ever greater efficiency - and widening fields of application.

The judging panel commented: “The EC systems are now incorporated into all types of heating and air conditioning plant and equipment, across the globe. Efficient fans are a hidden champion and have the potential to make a vast contribution in the drive for efficiency. It is a product whose time has come.”

Ebm-papst was also one of the three finalists short-listed in the Commercial Installation of the Year category. The company was part of a project team including Weatherite and the Eaton Williams Group, who planned, designed and installed an effective and highly efficient close control cooling system for BT. These systems are being installed at 650 BT communication exchange sites across the UK and use Ebm-papst EC fans to help cool telephone and data exchange houses and core node sites.

Speaking at the awards Geoff Lockwood, Technical Director said: “What a great night for everyone associated with Ebm-papst. The Cooling Industry Awards focus on excellence in environmentally aware cooling and winning these categories demonstrates our market leading position across the industry spectrum. I’m particularly delighted for Gert Haeussermann; he invented and then pioneered the EC fan, which has been the driver for our environmental initiatives.”
