A commitment to maximise joint working on health and safety has been signed by the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) and the Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association (HVCA).
The commitment encourages the two organisations to liaise on a range of health and safety matters and represents an acknowledgment by both parties of the need to work together to enhance safety on site and further improve and deliver members services with greater efficiency.
In particular, the associations have agreed to work closely on:
• Collecting accident statistics in order to identify national trends
• Providing technical support for assessment in connection with the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme and Engineering Services SKILLcard
• Producing written representations on key issues to the Health and Safety Executive and other bodies
• Developing assessment schemes for member companies.
At the signing of the commitment, ECA director David Pollock said: "Health and safety is of the utmost importance to members of both the ECA and the HVCA. Both associations have a reputation for excellence in this area, and we share many common issues.
"We aim, through co-operation, to maximise our effectiveness and provide opportunities for members to increase their business efficiency. We expect all members of both associations to benefit from this initiative."
HVCA director Robert Higgs said that the joint commitment underlined the increasing priority being given to health and safety throughout the construction industry. "We owe it to everyone engaged in the construction process to minimise on-site deaths and injuries, and to ensure the well-being of the workforce as a whole."

There is an obvious need for the industry to be more energy efficient and pay more attention to the ways in which energy is both used and wasted. Do you think we have the products on the market to meet our needs?
