Lochinvar flies high
Published:  22 September, 2005

Lochinvar has supplied heating equipment to Roundhay Park in Leeds.

An Intelli-fin IFB1500CE gas-fired boiler has been supplied for the Tropical Butterfly House which is home to between 30 and 40 varieties of butterflies and fish from all over the world.

The equipment was specified and installed by Leeds City Council Building Agency with optimum operating efficiency being a prime consideration in the selection process. Other key factors included the 10 year heat exchanger warranty and five year burner warranty.

David Pepper, Managing Director of Lochinvar, said: “Tropical World is a landmark in Leeds and it was great to be involved in this project.

“The Intelli-fin offers excellent operating efficiencies and reduced initial capital costs which are important benefits for all concerned.”

Lochinvar says the Intelli-fin offers up to 108 percent net thermal efficiency and is a fully recuperative condensing unit. With a fully modulating burner and dual heat exchanger arrangement Intelli-fin maintains high operating efficiency under a wide range of site conditions. Net efficiency of 103 percent is achieved at a return water temperature of 70°C.

The IFB1500CE has a rated output of 440Kw and two further models with outputs of 498 and 586 are also available. Intelli-fin is extremely compact, having a footprint of only 0.65 square metres and with a flue diameter of only 150mm can offer significant installation cost savings.

The unit will modulate instantly using variable frequency drive, maintaining high efficiencies even under part load conditions. Other key features of the Intelli-fin include self diagnostic controls, metallic fibre burner and a variety of flueing options.

Tropical World, where the Butterfly House is located, is one of the UK’s most popular garden tourist attractions, seeing more than 1,000,000 visitors each year and home to the largest collection of tropical plants outside Kew Gardens in London.
