Product manufacturers in the building services engineering sector have joined forces to address skills issues at a new group launched by SummitSkills Members comprising product manufacturers across the sector and trade associations gathered to discuss future technologies,identify new innovations and determine skills needed to
install and maintain building services equipment.This will help SummitSkills ensure that qualifications and training contain the necessary elements to prepare the workforce for today’s products and future developments.
At the first meeting, chaired by Alan Sims of boiler manufacturer Ideal Boilers, a common set of issues were agreed,including system design and pumping,water treatment, power flushing,building regulations and energy efficiency.
Speaking at the meeting,Alan Sims said:“The discussions and partnerships formed here will assist in raising the technical
capability of the workforce,as well as the quality of the training
provision.”
Bob Blake of SummitSkills said:“The group is an opportunity to start an ongoing dialogue with product manufacturers to ensure we capture immediate skills needs,as well as tomorrow’s.Our aim is to develop an appropriate workforce,qualifications and support capability for our ever evolving sector in a global market.”
