NHS specifies Hochiki
Published:  28 July, 2005

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a flagship NHS Trust hospital and was the first large PFI(Private Finance Initiative) healthcare facility to be built in Britain, with an important academic role as a medical school and teaching hospital attached to the University of East Anglia. The hospital provides 66 types of patient services with a staff of 5,500 treating nearly 600,000 people from Norfolk and from further afield.

Such a vast modern complex, covering over 100,000 square metres, requires optimum fire detection systems supported by the very latest analogue addressable technology. That's why the technology of choice for this major installation by Defensor Fire Detection Systems is the ESP range of interferenceimmune detection products from Hochiki Europe(U.K.)Limited.

To date, the installation includes over 6000 of Hochiki's ESP range of photoelectric analogue addressable smoke sensors incorporating Hochiki's unique 'High Performance Optical Technology' which allows the sensor threshold level to be increased, thus extending sensitivity to a much wider range of combustible materials.

In addition,zone-monitoring is performed by over 2500 of Hochiki's Input/Output Modules for monitoring and control of external equipment from the loop utilising Hochiki's fire data communications platform:the high integrity, digital ESP Enhanced System Protocol is designed to withstand external interference which can cause unwanted alarms.

The specification of Hochiki's fire detection products for this prestigious project is a measure of the quality of Hochiki's technology which provides the best possible life protection for staff and patients, supported by reliable service and low cost of maintenance.
