Integration and innovation are combined in the new lighting control scheme for the refurbished Science Theatre at the Salomons Centre in Kent.
Featuring Helvar’s Digidim digital lighting control system, the scheme delivers the ease of-use and flexibility required by a busy,multi-purpose function room and conference facility.
Situated on a country estate in Kent,The Salomons Centre is an exclusive, conference, training and multi-purpose function venue. The principal auditorium, the Science Theatre, has seating for 230 delegates and is in daily use for training purposes, meetings and major conferences,as well as private parties, receptions and banquets. Following a recent refurbishment, the Theatre has been equipped with the state-of-the-art presentation and A/V technology that brings the facility into the 21st Century, whilst integrating seamlessly into the traditional interior.
Lighting design for the project, carried out by Gibbs Dench Associates, was driven by the two-fold desire to improve general luminance levels and also develop a scheme that could respond to the wide-variety of lighting requirements of a multi-use space. The finished scheme features a combination of uplighters, ceiling and pendant luminaires - all controlled by the Helvar DALI-compatible Digidim system. Alongside this, via an RS 232 interface, the lighting system is integrated with the audio visual equipment,so that house lights are dimmed automatically on command.
As Trevor Dench of Gibbs Dench Associates explains, the control system was a key element in getting the best out of the lighting scheme:“By overlaying Helvar’s Digidim system the client has – at the touch-of- button – a huge variety of pre-programmed lighting scenes to choose from as well as the ability to override and select a lighting level to suit any individual requirement. The system is also really easy-to use and understand – an important feature in a multipurpose environment.”
A flush-mounted,stylish push-button wall plate provides the end-user with an effective interface for quick scenesetting in the Science Theatre.
At the heart of the system is the ‘Solutions’ dimmer cabinet, custom built for the project by Helvar’s in-house project engineering team to the project specification.
