Ensuring the building services engineering sector is equipped for new technologies was highlighted by SummitSkills to an audience at the Scottish Parliament recently.
The event,organised by the Sector Skills Alliance Scotland,was aimed at raising the skills agenda amongst Scottish Ministers and MSPs.
SummitSkills was one of only four Sector Skills Councils invited to present its views,and took the opportunity to promote building services issues.
Ian Stirrat,SummitSkills Operations Manager,detailed renewable energy skills initiatives and called for the Scottish government to provide funding for an energy efficiency qualification for condensing boilers.He also stressed the key role Sector Skills Councils have in ensuring Scotland’s workforce has the necessary skills and training to meet the challenges of new technologies.“This in turn will deliver cost effective solutions for their customers and contribute to Scotland’s energy efficiency targets and climate change programmes,” Ian said.
The main speech of the evening was made by Jim Wallace QC MSP,Deputy First Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning.Mr Wallace confirmed the Scottish Parliament’s commitment to working with Sector Skills Councils(SSC)and announced that it was making an extra £50,000 available to each SSC starting work on its Sector Skills Agreement.
