RCD protection from Eaton
Published:  02 July, 2005

RCD-protected two-gang switched socket-outlets in flush, surface and flat-plate format are now available in Eaton’s latest MEMSTYLE range for applications where the circuit supplying the socket-outlet is not protected upstream by a residual current device or where tripping discrimination is required at the socket outlet.

RCD sockets offer protection against electrocution for users of electrical equipment – in particular power tools, lawnmowers, hedge trimmers and other garden appliances. They are also very useful in schools, colleges, factories and laboratories where more local protection avoids loss of complete circuits. They also help reduce the risk of fires caused by earth faults in older equipment connected through the socketoutlet.

The MEMSTYLE RCD protected socket-outlets are available with 10mA or 30mA sensitivity as active or passive devices.Active units must be reset after any interruption to the power supply.Passive units have contacts that remain closed through an interruption to the power supply. They are intended for use with appliances such as refrigerators and freezers where it is important that normal operation is resumed after an interruption to the power supply.
