Skibo Castle, the favourite venue for celebrity weddings, offers private residential and sporting facilities for its members. With accommodation divided between 21 bedrooms in the castle and a further 25 bedrooms in the 7,000 acre estate’s private lodges, the castle also boasts an 18-hole championship golf course plus facilities for fishing, horse riding, falconry, clay pigeon shooting, archery, and numerous other indoor and outdoor sports.
Recently the Club House upgraded its boiler plant, including the installation of new underfloor heating and radiator systems. Campbell Control Services was contracted by H&V Engineers,Taylor & Fraser,to provide a management system and specified the PRIVA HX4, which has been specially developed to manage such installations. The system comes complete with three serial ports that can be deployed to integrate with other systems, plus integrated input/output modules.A unique feature of the HX4 is its graphics package which comes as standard. “It is unusual for small controllers to have associated graphics,”explains Alistair Campbell, Partner of Campbell Control Services, “and even more unusual for them to be a standard item.”
Campbell Control Services took advantage of the boiler house being adjacent to the club secretary’s office and has connected the controller into the office PC gaining access to the client’s intranet thereby allowing time programs to be quickly and easily changed onscreen and providing the management team with easy access to the system information from their office located elsewhere within the castle.
Campbell Control Services was responsible for design, supply and installation of the boiler house control panel incorporating the programmable PRIVA HX4 and linking the system into the club’s IT network complete with system graphics.
The success of this installation has led to a further controls contract at the castle’s Spa. Control and remote monitoring capability will be achieved using the PRIVA HX8E which, due to its advanced communications capability, connects directly into the site’s Ethernet. This approach brings the added flexibility of monitoring and controlling the Spa not just from the castle office, but from any PC connected to the intranet.
