Winning talent at national training awards

The brightest and best of up and-coming talent was recognised and rewarded at the fifth National Training Awards for the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry.

The event celebrates gifted apprentices,engineers and management personnel, many of whom won regional heats before being awarded the national accolade.Categories included top ‘Apprentice of the Year’ in various disciplines,culminating in ‘National Craft Apprentice’ won by Paul Haggerty, who is employed by Glasgow City Council. Similarly, young engineers were also paid tribute with the top engineering award of ‘National Student Engineer of the Year’ going to Andrew Linsley, described by his employer,Bailey Maintenance Services,as:“An exemplary employee displaying commitment to excellence”.

There were 13 winners in total, with The Happold Bursary award winner receiving a bursary to help further their education and each of the three Alfred Manly Management Award winners presented with management training courses.

Stuart Lyon,Vice-Chair of SummitSkills,praised the wnners and stressed the impotance of training:

“Continual learning and development of employees is vital if we are to grow and maintain a thriving workforce for the industry. Over the years,we have been increasingly impressed by the calibre of employees who are achieving in the workplace.”
