Cost saving breakthrough
Published:  08 March, 2005

The traditional metal plenum box, positioned above the ceiling

grille, is expensive to produce, needs at least a team of two to

install and invariably has to be secured above the ceiling because

of its weight.

Now, a new lightweight and fully insulated product, the Prelite

Plenum, has been invented and is now being marketed by Prelite

Plenums Ltd.

The product is over 75 percent lighter than its metal equivalent

and can therefore simply sit on top of the ceiling grille. It is also made from a rigid phenolic insulation panel faced on both sides with a non-reflective reinforced back foil which prevents any light from reflecting off the inside of the plenum box through the grille.

Results to date show that Prelite Plenums can be installed in just

25 percent of the time of the traditional box and that a saving of up

to 20 percent is made on its installation cost; making them an

obvious choice for today’s fast-track air conditioning installations.

Poll

There is an obvious need for the industry to be more energy efficient and pay more attention to the ways in which energy is both used and wasted. Do you think we have the products on the market to meet our needs?
