Helvar is big hit at MTV
Published:  07 February, 2005

The recently redesigned atrium at the MTV Networks studios in Camden features an effective, allpurpose lighting control solution from Helvar.

Designed to provide the music broadcaster with an easy-to-use lighting control system for this dynamic space, Helvar’s DIGIDIM has the built-in flexibility to satisfy the demands of this business and entertainment environment.

MTV's canal-side complex is home to the UK’s leading music channel portfolio, incorporating nine channels spanning the MTV, VH1 and TMF brands. The London-based architect and interior designer, GA Design, was commissioned to redesign the atrium space, which features open-plan first floor offices, a cafeteria, circulation area and entrance hall on the ground floor.

Installed by London-based CEL Building services, the DIGIDIM system from Helvar is easily controlled from a touchpanel behind the reception desk and ensures a vibrant, well-lit ambience is maintained at all times. This user interface controls the basic system function, scene selection, and the raising and lowering of the general light level. For ultimate convenience, all system functions can be controlled from a remote control handset.

Helvar’s DIGIDIM system is designed to provide a low cost, digital lighting control solution for numerous different environments using the DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) communication protocol. Designed to operate on a two-wire cable, the DIGIDIM range includes a series of controllers, lamp interface units and special purpose-designed modules, featuring converters, LON gateways and other products to ensure maximum system versatility. DALI communication allows fully independent control of up to 63 DIGIDIM devices on a single circuit and installations can also be reconfigured without the need for expensive re-wiring.
