  • Sabien helps reduce carbon emissions

    Installation of Sabien Technology's M2G intelligent boiler load optimisers at the headquarters of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the United Kingdom's qualifying body for Mechanical Engineers, has reduced the gas consumption for heating and hot water by 17% - over and above the savings achieved by the building management system (BMS). This is equivalent to a reduction in carbon emissions of 25 tonnes per annum - with a payback of around 2.7 years.

  • Faster response with Dunham-Bush

    Field trials carried out by Dunham-Bush in conjunction with a local authority have shown that fan convectors optimised for use with low grade heat from condensing boiler plant use up to 30% less energy than underfloor heating to maintain the same design conditions in classrooms. The tests were carried out on two similar schools with similar boiler plant to provide a direct comparison.

    Vaillant has been working closely with The Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation, its development partner Shepherds Bush Housing Association and Sandwood Design and Build Ltd on the sustainable redevelopment of 18 flats for ex-servicemen, part of the Chiswick War Memorial Homes estate at Burlington Lane, Chiswick, London. 36 Vaillant solar flat plate collectors have been fitted at the project, along with 18 auroSTOR 200-litre cylinders and 18 ecoTEC plus 618 system boilers.

  • DUNHAM-BUSH SUPPLIES TO THE KING'S SCHOOL

    The innovative Freshvector combined perimeter heating and natural ventilation system from Dunham-Bush is being used to provide space heating in two new buildings at The King's School in Peterborough. Freshvector uses specially developed vents with motorised dampers and attenuators in the wall of the building to allow fresh air to be drawn across the high level heating elements using the stack effect. As a result, the fresh air is pre-heated and draughts associated with conventional ventilation are eliminated, while noise levels are very low.

  • WALTER MEIER HELPS ROYAL ACADEMY

    In a move to reduce energy and life cycle costs, the Royal Academy of Arts (RAA) in London has replaced ageing air conditioning and humidification plant with Defensor Mk5 humidifiers and Hitachi Samurai chillers from Walter Meier (Climate UK). The products were specified by consulting engineers Peter Deer Associates Ltd (PDA), in conjunction with John Ellis, the Royal Academy's environmental consultant.

    JS Humidifiers has supplied and installed five Neptronic SKR steam humidifiers to the Alistair Reid Venom Research Unit at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. The in-room humidifiers are installed in the snake rooms and each provides up to 5.5kg of steam per hour to maintain the required humidity for the health and comfort of the snakes.

    A project to upgrade existing 8ft T12 fluorescent light fittings using Chalmor's ReNew T5 upgrade solution, linked to BlueWave lighting controllers, at Oxfam's 2,000 m2 central distribution centre is projected to deliver an operational cost saving of approximately 80% per annum. As a result, Oxfam is now able to direct more donated money to its front line activities.

    North Glasgow College has utilised Pilkington Pyrostop fire resistant glazing for a brand new state-of-the-art learning facility in its campus in the Springburn area of the city. This £42million, 16,900m² development incorporates a central atrium space, with Pilkington Pyrostop used to protect its occupants and contents from fire whilst allowing natural light into the building.
