Mike Elms, Technical Sales Manager for Uninterruptible Power Supplies Limited, a Kohler company, discusses the information you need to know to specify the right UPS for your organisation.

Although uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems perform many important power protection functions, their key role is to maintain a secure electrical supply if the mains fails or transgresses acceptable limits. To achieve this, they need an energy source which is safely stored and available for instant use on demand, and easily replenished when the mains power returns.

  • Putting smart homes into practice

Generating electricity and heat from the same source can produce impressive energy savings and significant environmental benefits, as Mark Northcott of Remeha, explains.

In an increasingly uncertain world, the security of a country's power supply starts with energy efficiency and one of the most promising pieces of technology in terms of saving energy and protecting precious environmental resources is microCHP (micro Combined Heat and Power).

  • Supporting the need for solar thermal systems
By Yan Evans, Technical Director of Andrews Water Heaters and Potterton Commercial
    Published:  02 April, 2009

The recent increase in the uptake of commercial solar thermal systems in the UK has predominantly been driven by local authority planning consent requirements for up to 15% of the building's energy requirement to be derived from some form of renewable technology.  This has revealed a huge knowledge gap amongst designers, engineers and contractors within the heating and ventilation sector regarding the design of non-domestic solar thermal systems.
